I grew up near the Chesapeake Bay and spent more weekends than not sailing with my family as a young girl. I loved the experience from the start, and hand-in-hand with writing poetry, it is my greatest passion. Sadly, the bay has suffered significantly over the years due to pollution, though continued awareness of such has prompted viable efforts to restore the bay's health.
As a little inner tribute, the last four lines of this poem were adapted from a verse I wrote while sailing the bay as a kid. Upon sharing Chesapeake Pure with my dad, the most intuitive sailor I know, I was also treated to his poetic thoughts and connection he's experienced with the wind. Immediately inspired, I wrote Chesapeake Free for him. fav.me/d6j01kf
Perhaps this is a start of a Chesapeake Collection.
